Installation of Our 3-Point Retractable Shoulder
Harness Kit in a
Ford Mustang
This vintage '67 Mustang only came with lap belts in
both the front and rear. The extra added protection of
a shoulder strap will always be welcome in an accident.
The seat belt kit. Only one front and one
rear seatbelt assembly is shown. the parts on
the left half of the photo are for the front
seats.
We removed the front seats for
this because we thought it would make it easier
to move around the inside of the car.
You can immediately remove the old seat
belts and put the new center belts in because
they use the original factory holes.
Next we measure for the upper
bolt. We then center punched the hole and
drilled it. This top bracket also requires two
pop rivets for each side.
Center punching...
Drilling...
We worked up the drill size in
three steps rather than jump
straight to the big one.
Drill for the bottom bolt which holds the
inertia reel next. Cutting the carpet where you
want to drill is a good idea so that your drill
does not get caught on the fabric. Attach one
of the ninety degree brackets to the reel and
then use the bracket and another bolt to attach
it to the floor. Use the larger washer for the
underside of the car.
The bottom bolt as seen from the
underside of the car.
Tighten the bolts for both the upper and
lower holes with a ratchet and you're done.
